Read the text about responsible tourism & fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verb in brackets.
For example: I want [to go] (go)
(travel) has, for people all over the world, become one of the most popular ways of (spend) free time. This isn’t surprising considering that people travel for all kinds of reasons, some people travel (relax), others travel (see) the world and experience new people, places and cultures, many people enjoy a combination of both. You can (spend) your morning relaxing by the pool and in the afternoon you could (do) some sightseeing and visit some cultural sites.
Perhaps when you think about (go) on holiday you think of (relax) by the pool reading a good book, and many people are happy to do exactly that. Perhaps you prefer visiting galleries and museums or want (taste) gastronomic delicacies, whatever you enjoy, you can (find) the holiday of your dreams with very little effort. (use) the internet it is easy (find) a huge variety of offers with plenty of information and reviews to help you (make) a decision.
You should always (be) very careful about security when travelling. Be careful (keep) any valuables concealed and safe as they can (attract) unwanted attention. Although you are on holiday and enjoying yourself, you need (remain) vigilant in some areas and should be aware of the tricks that many unscrupulous people will use (get) some money from you! In some countries the police may even (try) to make you pay a fine just to get some money from you, but fortunately this type of corruption is rare.
If you’re thinking of (visit) a city it might (be) a good idea to do some research online and find out about what problems tourism is causing so that you can avoid (contribute) to these issues. Perhaps local people are angry about tourist apartments or the behaviour of tourists in their towns and cities.
When you are on holiday it is easy (forget) that not everybody is partying and enjoying themselves, locals may be trying (sleep) without (be) disturbed or may be trying to run a business but are constantly bothered by tourists taking photographs.
It is also important (respect) local cultures and traditions. For example, if you are visiting a religious site, custom may dictate that you should (cover) your shoulders or head, in fact, at some sites, they don’t let people (enter) without appropriate attire.
The important thing to remember is that although you should be careful, Don’t forget (enjoy) yourself, you shouldn’t let these concerns (spoil) your holiday!
