“Alright, let’s see what we’ve got here. The scene’s quiet now, but it must have quite a rush earlier. Jewelry missing from the safe, no sign of forced entry on the doors… but look at that window over there.
The shattered glass is outside, so the window must have broken from the inside. That tells me the burglar wanted it to look like they’d forced their way in from outside. Clever move, but too obvious—makes it clear someone inside had already let them in or they had a key. Yes, the burglar must have a key. No other way they could’ve gotten access to the safe so easily.
Now, who could have that kind of access? The burglar be a member of the family or someone with access to the house. It’s one of the only ways this whole setup makes sense. And they were careful—no fingerprints on the safe or anywhere else in the study. They were wearing gloves and a mask, so they have come prepared. Not a rushed job. They came here knowing exactly what to expect.
And speaking of the safe… not a thing out of place in this room except the jewelry case. Nothing else taken, no drawers rifled through. They must have what they were looking for. Jewelry alone, high value and easy to carry. This wasn’t a random burglary; they had a specific goal and left without any other valuables that would have slowed them down.
Outside, the ground’s wet from last night’s rain, but I don’t see any car tracks, just a set of footprints heading toward the back gardens. They were on foot, so they can’t have got far; they be somewhere close. No cars have left the village since we got here, so they still be hiding somewhere nearby. Smart enough to plan an inside job but foolish enough to try to disappear in a place as small as this.
Alright, time to gather the family and a few of the household staff. Let’s see who’s a little too nervous to answer some questions…”
